Meet the customer

tombola is a leading online bingo and gaming operator, delivering highly available, regulated digital gaming experiences to customers at scale. Operating in a tightly regulated industry, tombola must ensure platform reliability, auditability, and compliance while continuing to evolve its technology platform to support new capabilities and services.

Customer challenge

tombola needed to modernise parts of its existing platform to better support regulatory requirements, operational consistency, and future service evolution. Legacy platform constraints limited the organisation’s ability to introduce new event-driven capabilities and made it harder to adapt logging and compliance mechanisms as regulatory needs evolved.

As the platform continued to grow, tombola required a more flexible and scalable approach that would allow services to be replatformed incrementally while introducing cloud-native capabilities where they delivered clear value. Any changes needed to be delivered carefully to avoid disruption to live production systems operating in a regulated environment.

Without a structured migration and modernisation approach, tombola risked increased operational complexity and reduced agility when responding to regulatory and platform change.

Partner solution

AWS migration & modernisation delivery

We partnered with tombola to design and deliver a phased AWS migration and modernisation approach, combining replatforming with the introduction of new cloud-native capabilities.

Migration strategy

We worked with tombola to define an incremental modernisation strategy that focused on replatforming selected services while enabling new event-driven capabilities on AWS. This approach allowed tombola to modernise safely without undertaking large-scale, high-risk platform changes.

The migration approach accounted for legacy infrastructure and existing platform constraints, while ensuring the solution was designed and delivered in line with AWS best practices and production readiness requirements.

Migration and modernisation execution

The first replatformed service was delivered as an MVP and went live in production in March 2025, running on Linux-based Amazon EC2. This established a foundation for operating modernised services on AWS while maintaining stability and control.

Building on this foundation, we designed and delivered a new Amazon EventBridge–based logging and regulatory support capability, which went live in September 2025. This introduced cloud-native, event-driven functionality to better support regulatory and operational requirements, while integrating cleanly with replatformed services.

Operational readiness and support

We provided end-to-end delivery support, including architecture and design, hands-on engineering, regulatory-focused implementation, and production rollout support. All changes were aligned to AWS best practices and designed for live production use in a regulated environment.

Results and business outcomes

The migration and modernisation work established a modern AWS-based foundation for tombola, enabling new cloud-native capabilities while supporting existing production services. The platform now operates live on AWS and supports event-driven regulatory and logging functionality aligned to tombola’s compliance needs.

While formal quantitative benefits have not yet been measured, the migration reduced architectural complexity and enabled capabilities that were not previously available on the legacy platform, including event-driven regulatory and logging support. This has improved tombola’s ability to respond to regulatory change and provides a scalable foundation for further AWS-based modernisation.

The solution was designed and delivered in alignment with AWS best practices as part of our AWS partner-led migration and modernisation capability.
