Overview

Our collaboration began with a small, embedded engineering group in Edinburgh. We started by focusing on high-quality delivery in foundational tasks, which naturally led to an expanded remit as mutual trust developed.

Today, our experts in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London are fully integrated, leading platform-level initiatives – from modernising mobile architecture to unlocking critical data pipelines. With plans to expand our presence to Barcelona, we are now a core part of Skyscanner’s mission to solve the industry-wide challenge of user retention and lay the foundations for truly personalised traveller experiences.

Opportunity

To realise the personalised experience Skyscanner envisioned, we worked together to address three key challenges. First, we navigated the natural complexity of a large-scale mobile app codebase built by over 100 engineers. Next, we focused on reducing user churn – a common challenge across the travel industry, where many customers book once and don’t return. Improving retention was key to strengthening loyalty and long-term value.

Finally, we optimised how Skyscanner’s extensive data flows were processed and accessed, ensuring the platform could run fast enough to power tailored, real-time travel journeys. With Skyscanner’s renowned engineering standards and ambitious goals, expectations were high – and early impact was essential.

Solution

To integrate smoothly into their workflow, our engineers began working alongside Skyscanner – starting with smaller tasks, such as bug fixes and copy changes. This early work helped establish the trust that allowed our engineers to contribute to major architectural decisions.

As a result, our remit expanded to larger initiatives – including closing the loyalty gap. To help address this, we designed Skyscanner’s first in-app profile feature, surfacing the traveller’s profile picture in the tab bar to provide a clear logged-in cue and encourage repeat visits.

Today, we are tackling the platform’s complexity head-on – modernising mobile apps, migrating legacy systems, and unifying development across iOS and Android. Following internal training on GitHub Copilot, one of our engineers applied those learnings within Skyscanner’s workflow, accelerating automated testing and improving delivery speed.

Beyond mobile, we’re enabling Skyscanner’s engineers to process data more efficiently, increase visibility, and improve SEO performance to reach more users.

Outcome

This partnership model is the perfect illustration of a scalable framework that’s built for the demands of global technology leaders. We scaled our development capability on demand, rapidly establishing embedded teams to support their global hubs in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, and Barcelona.

We now share platform-level ownership and contribute at their town halls. This deep collaboration drives a measurable uplift in engineering velocity and the delivery of new user-facing features. By applying AI-assisted testing from our internal Copilot training, test coverage increased from 18% to 88% in a single cycle. Higher coverage means more of the app’s code is automatically checked before release, reducing hidden bugs, lowering risk, and speeding up software delivery.

This success has improved the quality and pace of delivery for Skyscanner’s flagship app. It has also led to an expanded remit for our team beyond mobile into data specialism and AI workshops across Europe. Recognised as a trusted thought partner, our senior leaders now contribute to discussions on architecture and strategy – helping shape the future of global travel alongside Skyscanner.
