Overview

The operator's Global Trading Platform (GTP) is the central system their traders use to manage live betting operations, from ingesting data feeds to setting and adjusting odds. Our shared goal was to evolve the platform’s handling of in-play betting data, moving from a single data partner model to a more flexible, multi-source architecture.

Together, we re-engineered the platform as a collection of resilient microservices running on AWS. This new foundation provides the operator with the agility to integrate new data feeds for any sport, reduce long-term maintenance costs, and scale their trading operations to maintain a competitive edge.

Opportunity

The operator had ambitious growth plans, creating a strategic opportunity to advance its live betting platform. Two concurrent business drivers made this evolution a priority. The first was a planned transition from the primary football data supplier – a key step in ensuring continuity for a major revenue stream. In parallel, the goal of expanding their cricket offering called for a more adaptable architecture capable of integrating specialised data feeds.

We needed to address a key technical challenge: the in-play stack was optimised for deep integration with one single data provider, and this was limiting flexibility as new opportunities emerged.

Solution

The solution was delivered in two main phases, addressing immediate business priorities while creating a foundation for scalable growth. The entire platform was built on AWS, using Kubernetes for service orchestration and GitLab for CI/CD pipelines.

First, we re-engineered the core data pipeline to integrate the new primary football provider. This involved two key phases: migrating the platform from its existing database architecture to a more flexible model, and refactoring the software into independent microservices. This new architecture improves stability, simplifies future updates, and ensures the high-speed performance required for live data processing.

Second, we demonstrated the platform's new capability by adding a new data feed for cricket. We established a streamlined pathway for this data, enabling rapid delivery of new betting options to customers and validating the architecture's flexibility for future expansion.

Outcome

The evolved platform delivered immediate commercial and strategic value. The modernised system now handles 60% of all daily football trading, securing a key revenue stream. Simultaneously, the successful integration of the cricket feed has unlocked new revenue opportunities through more detailed, in-play betting options.

Crucially, this collaboration has provided the operator with a future-proofed platform. They now possess the proven capability to expand into new markets, integrate any data source, and launch products with greater speed and efficiency, securing their long-term competitive advantage.
